beyond the one-page resume

Profile

I was a behavioral anthropologist/psychologist with a side gig in design - stack of mystery novels - and too many questions. I found my calling in this field. My work has lead me to a range of fascinating fields from graphic design, to branding/marketing, to digital UX, and to experiential design.

Above all, it’s about helping companies and the people they design for through translating empathy into strategy. And, selfishly, learning along the way. I have a particular interest in interactivity, experiential, and service design research.

Experience

Adaptive Patterns, Design Researcher and Strategist

Adaptive Patterns is a new company with the mission to bring design thinking methods to the digital product cycle. As part of this team, I was part of all research; designing research plans for clients, conducting and analysis of qualitative interviews, survey writing, and presenting strategic recommendations via reports and presentations. As a small company, I also wore other hats; assisting in business development via business planning/strategy, creating design thinking resources, and acting as project manager.

Field Museum of Natural History

In February 2018, I was recruited by the Field Museum to perform an evaluation of digital reading tools within the China Hall exhibition. I worked with the head of the departments to develop a research plan that involved methods both behavioral and attitudinal, designing and developing research tools and instruments that were used to collect data by myself and assistants. At the end of this project, I then analyzed the data and presented the final findings and suggestions via formal report and presentation.

Science Museum of Minnesota

Shortly before moving to Chicago in 2017, I worked with the Research and Evaluations team to study museum-wide visitor experience. I turned a volunteer opportunity and love of science into spearheading a long-desired project of studying visitor's journeys. I developed protocol and research methods and collected preliminary data from visitors.

Volunteer Experience with City Open

City Open is a forum for urban designers, planners and data scientists to team up on community-based projects in partnership with Chicago civic organizations. My current project is reimagining the future of church spaces and evaluating community usage of current spaces.

Educational Experience in UW-Madison

During my time at the University of Wisconsin, I developed as much of a user research curriculum as I was able. I received minors in design as well as digital humanities, which was the study of the effect technology has on our culture/psychology. I took courses in interaction design, human factors, as well as studied under HCD professors that had me working on design thinking projects around experiential and service design (such as translating the book Aramis by Bruno Latour into an experiential exhibit). I used this knowledge to apply my knowledge and work on UX projects in various jobs in advertising and educational programming. I was very lucky.
